In 1925, Ernst Leitz II (1871-1956) made a bold decision to bring the Leica camera into series production, despite a challenging time of high unemployment and hyperinflation. Alongside the globally renowned microscope production, the Leica camera swiftly became a success. It set new standards with its solid construction and impeccable craftsmanship, all originating from Wetzlar. Ernst Leitz was a visionary who, even during politically turbulent times, remained true to his principles, demonstrating both civic courage and social responsibility. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Leica camera, the “Ernst” Teddy bear has been created as a special edition. Made from light brown mohair, this bear is dressed in a black wool suit, a cotton shirt, and a bow tie. He has a white mohair beard, and on his jacket is a red felt patch embroidered with the white Leica logo. A miniature Leica camera hangs from a brown cord around his neck. This edition honours both the Leica camera and the legacy of Ernst Leitz II.
